What does everybody think of the Karma option?

Once you have at least 10 posts you may "applaud" or "smite" other users to increase or decrease their karma.  Karma doesn't affect anything on the board.  It is just an interesting number.  The general idea is that members who post interesting ideas will have a high karma rating while those who don't will be given a low (or negative) karma rating.

The option is easily turned off, but I have it turned on for now so that we can experiment with it.

I have changed the name of "Karma" to "Merit".   The idea now is to applaud somebody when you think they have shown merit, and to smite then when they have acted without merit.

Very interesting, I like the idea. Though if someone holds a grudge, they could just continue to smite could they not?

Yes.   You can only applaud or smite somebody once an hour.  I can change this to once every 24 (or something) if it becomes a problem.

Well if someone gets out of control, you should all smite that person!
