Press Release:  Resolution to Support Alpha Omega

The Meritocratic Isles has unanimously passed a resolution to support Alpha Omega and Prefectural sovereignty.

The resolution was written in response to charges filed against Alpha Omega in the Meritocratic Court, and to language in the Legions Act of 2006 that seems to give the Senate power over Prefectural militaries during peacetime.

The Meritocratic Senate has taken positive steps since the original draft of this resolution.  The charges against Alpha Omega have been dropped, amendments to the Legions Act of 2006 are under vote, and many Senators have spoken up against treating Prefectures as mere colonies.  This pleases the Apella, but we still feel that we must make our views heard.

The resolution reads as follows:

Resolution to Support Alpha Omega
and Protect Prefectural Sovereignty

The Meritocratic Isles,

Reaffirming its founding principles of sovereignty and self-determination,

Having observed  the desire of some Senators to diminish the sovereignty of The Meritocracy’s Prefectures,

Regretting the treatment of Alpha Omega within the Senate,

Deeply concerned over the language of Section III, “Prefecture Forces”, of The Legions Act of 2006,

Noting that all current Treaties of Reunification grant Prefectures the right to command their own militaries during times of peace,

1. Expresses its support of Alpha Omega,

2. Reaffirms its support of the Treaties of Unification,

3. Calls upon the Meritocratic Senate to reaffirm its support for the treaties it has signed with its Prefectures,

4. Requests that the Meritocratic Senate strike down or amend the Legions Act of 2006,

5. Calls upon members of the Meritocratic Senate to respect the sovereign rights of the Prefectures to control and command their militaries during times of peace,

6. Resolves to call for a vote of secession should Alpha Omega, or any other Prefecture, be forced to submit its military to the Meritocratic Senate or any of its officers during times of peace,

7. Expresses its utmost sincerity on these important matters.
