I, bigrev of the nation of Z8pt, pledge to act as a responsible citizen of the Meritocratic Isles, to uphold its laws, and to contribute to the governance of the region.

Welcome to our cherished forums Z8pt.

What do you think should be added to, or improved in the Meritocratic Isles?
What skills do you bring that could help us accomplish these goals?

Welcome, Bigrev.

I found your nation's motto quite "balanced".

I have only two questions for you:

In your nation, where does the government's responsibility end and where the people's liberty begin?
In contrast, where is the government allowed liberty and where must the people be responsible?

Sincerely,

HRH, Chester,
Lord of House Worden,
Steward of God,
King, Reigning over You-Gi-Owe.

Those are very good questions that do not have an easy and straight forward answer.

I believe that people should not be "carried" through their life as if they were still young and do not know that they have responsibilities.  I do, however, think that the government should help people that need it,  as long as  it is for a "short" period of time. These help can take form in a number of things.

Another thing is general poverty. For that, I think that the help is much more important, but instead of just giving money away in subsidies I believe that better education, health care, etc is a much better way to give people an opportunity. Then again, another strong idea, is that poverty and social problems in general are not an excuse to do "bad" things.

I am trying not to write a long essay about these points, because it is hard to make a general rule for different cases. If I were to make one about people's liberty, it would be along the lines of this metaphor: They can punch the air as much as they want, if they don't touch anyone or anyone`s property.

These are well thought out answers, Z8pt.

Would you please answer my questions as well?

OUR apologies, Kadoshim.  It was not OUR intent to steal the show.

Still, since WE have interjected that comment, pray give US leave to say that WE fully appreciate the answers of Z8pt as they attempt to bring their nation to prosperity and justice.

Also, WE are favorably inclined to their admission.

Well, my knowledge of how the Meritocratic Isles work is rather small, I haven't had that opportunity. Nevertheless, from everything I read on how it works I think everything is very well thought. The only possible improvement, and something in which I would be eager to help, hence answering your second question, is the communication between all the nations, the exchange of ideas and discussions.

Sorry for not answering your questions before, but I didn't see them! Tongue
