I have reserved my country's name. Personally, I am not too excited about NS2. I guess I will try it out, but I am definately NOT paying money for it.

NS2 is supposedly much more complex than NS1. It includes more customization, as well as the features as war and trade.
A MINOS article was written just after it was announced, so you can learn more about it by checking that out.

From what I have read of NS2 it is exactly like NS, but the nations are no longer in their own little bubble of safety. Meaning that you "will" come into contact with other nations in the game through means of trade, war, and diplomacy.

That is an excellent way of describing it, Vacineia.

I checked out the NationStates2 website, and the Beta has begun running. I read the help and it seems way too complicated for my taste.
For example: doesn't it take the fun out of making alliances from scratch when different alliance settings are actually in the code of the game?

Another thing that I was wondering about is if the size of NS1 will shrink once the actual NS2 is released. The current size of NS1 hovers around 76 thousand. For the last few months, there has been a constant disappearance of nations as well as a flow of new nations, and the overall number of nations has stayed rather stable.
With the release of NS2, NS1 could face a double whammy:
1. More players are too captivated by their NS2 nation to care about their NS1 nation. A faster rate of disappearance in NS1.
2. New players are attracted to NS2 instead of NS1. A slower flow of new nations.

True the idea of a huge drop in the population of NS1 would be a major blow. But for all of us who are already playing this game and going to become involved in NS2 it wouldnt take to much effort to manage both. Also we should keep in mind that their will be people who will find the sequel to complicated or just want to keep it simple so why not play NS1

Where does one get the beta key for NS2?

I was unable to access the Beta Key as well, Shieldelf. My best explanation was that only certain nations were given the Beta Key so that they could test the game out.
Once the final version of the game comes out we should all be able to create a nation.

I reserved my nation name, but have not read much up on NS2......

Will we as an alliance stay together there?

I also am not willing to participate through payments. That would take away the fun, I think.
